A POPULAR RuPaul’s Drag Race UK star has recounted how he met his famous hero Glenn Close at a historic Glasgow music hall.

Brighton drag legend Joe Black met the Hollywood actress, best known for her starring role in the 1987 blockbuster Fatal Attraction, at the Britannia Panopticon in Trongate while on tour in 2016.

He told the Glasgow weather: “One of the guys who ran the Panopticon had worked with her [for 2017 film The Wife] making costumes and she was taking a tour of the place.

“It was kind of a strange fate that the two nights I was at the Panopticon, Glenn Close was there.”

Joe added, “I was able to take care of her dog while she was riding too. It was not safe to take the dog up there as the building is very old.

The artist, who is a self-proclaimed “accidental Glenn Close impersonator,” is expected to return to town next week with his own show for the first time in nearly five years.

Joe will perform a dark cabaret concert at the popular Glee Club in Renfrew Street on Wednesday night.

The artist from East Sussex has said Glasgow is one of his favorite cities in the UK.

“I love it. It’s the only place other than Brighton I would live in the UK. It’s such a pleasure to be there,” he said.

“It’s beautiful, there are always lovely people there and I’ve never had a bad time there, either for business or pleasure. There are just very good vibes. ”

He added: “I have very distinct memories of my first time there, about 15 years ago, walking out of the station and hearing bagpipes.

“It was my first time in Scotland and the first thing I heard was the bagpipe.”

The upcoming Decopunk show, which is part of a 14-date UK tour, will feature Joe’s black cabaret humor and musical reinventions paired with his 1930s Hollywood flair.

The artist was the first competitor to be eliminated from last year’s Drag Race UK competition which later saw Glasgow-based Lawrence Chaney snatch the crown.

Joe said: “Of course the city has the current reigning RuPaul’s Drag Race UK winner, but there is such a big [drag] scene there.

“That’s what I’ve always loved about it; everyone is grafting and working hard. Everyone just makes things happen. They don’t wait for others to do it – they just do it.

“I haven’t been there for my own show for a few years now, so I’m delighted to see people coming to Glee Club and watching the madness unfold.”

He added: “They are also always very enthusiastic audiences. I went to see the local shows when I was up there and the audience is really supportive of everyone.

“I’ve never been there when it wasn’t a wonderful, crowded audience – whether I’m in the audience or on stage. People come and show their love, don’t they? ”

The star revealed that fans can expect to see a lot of “cabaret chaos and vaudevillian shenanigans” next week at the Glee Club concert.

Joe has already given a series of shows across the country on his Decopunk tour and says it has been “amazing” so far – for himself and his audience.

He said: “Every night has been so, so much fun and it’s nice after a year and a half that we’ve all had. People keep telling me, ‘I’ve been waiting for this for so long’, and I’m like, ‘Me too’.

“For a while, nothing seemed like it was going to happen – and then suddenly it happened. Every once in a while I get taken aback and think, “I’m actually in a room full of bloody people and we’re having a good time.”

“It’s almost too good to be true.”
